Carnival in Opatija
Carnival in Opatija traditionally begins on St. Anthony’s Day, with the raising of the Carnival flag and the keys of the city handed over to people dressed up in costumes, and ends on ”Pepelnica”, when a male figure known as ”Pust” is burned as a symbol of all the bad things that happened in the past year.
It includes several major events, with one of the absolute highlights being Children’s Carnival in Opatija – the big parade of exuberant, colourfully decked-out youngsters is truly a delightful moment during Opatija Carnival.
Thousands of children, both from Croatia as well as other countries, walk from the central square to the main city beach in their creative costumes. This year marked the 22nd edition of Children’s Carnival and was held on Sunday, 28.01.2018. The event culminated on the plateau above Slatina Beach, where the children gathered and were entertained by singer Mia Dimšić.
Since our Hotel Bristol**** is located in the middle of where the event took place, we prepared several special offers for our guests. The parents could enjoy a toasty mug of mulled wine or a nice cold beer, while the kids were unable to resist our homemade donuts and fritters. Everything was prepared and served on our terrace right in front of guests, by our cooks and waiters who were also dressed up in imaginative costumes in keeping with the festivities.
We couldn’t have been happier to support this event by creating a pleasant atmosphere on our terrace, where everybody had a wide smile on their face: the kids and their parents enjoying every moment of this beautiful, sunny day along with a selection of mouth-watering treats served by waiters who had also happily embraced the spirit of the occasion.
